The stage 6 of the Tour du Rwanda was successful for the long served Eritrean man, Eyob Metkel, who won this stage, Kayonza to Kigali with 1h:58’:55’’, riding for Dimension Data for Qhubeka. He made a record since he joined the race in 2012, he won now 5 stages and made a record.

Eyob Metkel broke the record of the greatest most of stage victories

Several riders tried to get out of the peloton in the first few kilometers but they could not take the front.

Km 15, 6 runners took off. Van Engelen (Bike Aid), Mansouri (Algeria), Nduwayo Eric (Benection club), Rugamba Janvier (Les Amis sportifs), Uwingeneye (Les Amis sportifs), Musie (Eritrea).

The descent to reach the wall of Kigali, the escapades have fallen. In the last climb to the finish line, the two leaders from Dimension Data were clearing themselves.

By winning today the 6th stage of the Tour du Rwanda in front of the Regional Stadium of Kigali, Metkel Eyob broke the record of the greatest most of stage victories which he shared since his 4th success last thursday in Nyamata with the Rwandan Valens Ndayisenga, Eritrean Mekseb Debesay and American Kiel Reijnen.

With five wins on the Rwandan roads, the Eritrean team Dimension Data for Qhubeka has returned to the history of the event.

“It’s a great honor for me because everyone knows how hard it is to win on these roads in Rwanda, he said. But today, I was mainly thinking of helping my leader Joseph Areruya to defend his yellow jersey. “

The Rwandan, Areruya Joseph, came almost into his wheel to finish in second place at 3 seconds and to secure his place of leader in the general classification before the last stage tomorrow.

“Nothing is won in advance but I think I have done the hardest part today,” said Joseph Areruya.

Joseph Areruya seems to be now out of danger for the final victory.

He had crossed safely the famous Wall of Kigali where tens of thousands of euphoric spectators had gathered to see the heroes of the « Petite Reine ». With 35 seconds ahead of his teammate Metkel Eyob on the general classification, Joseph Areruya seems to be now out of danger for the final victory.
