The Eritrean Eyob Metkel has won the fourth stage of Tour du Rwanda, a stage composed of Km 120,5 with a finish at Nyamata – Bugesera. He was in front of his team mate, Areruya Joseph who is now the leader on general classement aftre puting a long gap between his Swiss opponent, Simon Pellaud.
After several unsuccessful attempts, a first group was formed at Km 13 with 8 runners who was in the lead: Langat (Bike aid), Musie (Eritrea), Debretsion Aaron (Eritrea), Ebrahim Redwan (Ethiopia), Ruberwa Jean (Benediction club), Nduwayo Eric (Benediction club), Edward Greene (Lowestrates.ca), Uwingeneye (Les Amis sportifs), Sebastien Fournet (Haute Savoie). The first break gave them an advance of 15 sec.
At Km 15, they were 11 runners in the lead by three counter-attacker.
Km 10 of finish, Eyob and Areruya continued their momentum after the climber classification. Km 5 of finish, the two leading men are 30 seconds ahead of their former escort companions as the peloton gets closer to 1 minute 40 seconds. Nsengimana goes after them. Areruya and Eyob pass the line together.
Joseph Areruya had promised his supporters that he would fight to recover his yellow jersey that he lost last Tuesday in the 2nd stage against the Swiss Simon Pellaud.
Metkel Eyob was happy to win his 4th stage on the Tour of Rwanda since 2013, which places him in the lead of the greatest number of stage success tied with Valens Ndayisenga, Mekseb Debesay and Kiel Riejnen.
