The Dimension data superman, named “The Beast” Areruya Joseph wins in solo the first stage of Tour of Rwanda, from Kigali to Huye district, a distance of 120 Km. He has arrived alone on the final line with 3h12’12”.
From the Km 1, four riders escaped the peloton. Rugamba Janvier (Les Amis sportifs), Sauel Hakiruwizeye (Les Amis sportifs), Nizeyimana Alexis (Club Benediction) and Ebrahim Redwan (Ethiopia team). The break away was 1’45”.
At Km 15, the riders force the pace, Hakiruwizeye moves away alone, Ebrahim chased him at 30″. The two other escaped are taken over the peloton which has just accelerated the pace.
Mc Phaden Cameron and Greene, two riders of Lowestrates.ca team, they tried to get out of the peloton vainly. It was at Km 80.
Samuel Mugisha (Dimension Data), one of the revelations of the 2016 edition got out the peloton alone, at Km 89. He goes after the escaped rider. But he was quickly taken back by the head of the peloton.
Areruya Joseph (Dimension Data), was attacking. His lead quickly reaches 38″.
While the break way seemed almost taken up by the peloton, he increased the lead again at 1’08”, at Km 15 of arrival. Like last year, he won the Huye’s stage again and he want to keep the yellow jersey.
