The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has postponed the final of the 2017 Second Division League to Monday, June 26 following the shock death of the beloved wife of Isonga Fc coach Gatera Moussa.
In light of this terrible news, Saturday’s second division final game between Isonga Fc and Miroplast Fc has been postponed.
The management of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) sends its deepest condolences to Coach Gatera Moussa’s family and Isonga Fc.
The statement from FERWAFA read, ’We are saddened to learn of the death of the beloved wife of Coach Gatera Moussa. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues and Isonga Fc’.
Coach Gatera’s wife passed away early morning on Friday at CHUK Kigali and will be laid to rest this afternoon at Nyamirambo cemetery according to Islamic rights.
With the development, Isonga Fc and Miroplast Fc will play their final match on Monday, June 26 at Stade de Kigali, 15:30.
Both sides have already earned qualification to the 2017/18 Azam Rwanda Premier League, taking places for SC Kiyovu and Pepiniere who were relegated from the Azam Rwanda Premier League during the just-concluded season.
Isonga Fc reached the final after knocking out AS Muhanga 1-0 in the first leg before both sides settled for a goalless draw in the second leg.
Miroplast Fc who lost to Rwamagana City Fc 3-2 on aggregate were consigned in the final after the Eastern Province side was banned from the competition over fielding an illegible player during the semi-final playoffs.
The decision was taken following a protest from Miroplast Fc after the first leg match of the semi-final round played on June 11 at Gishari grounds in Rwamagana.
The petition contested the eligibility Pie Micomyiza, who was fielded by Rwamagana City FC yet he did not appear on their official squad list that had been submitted to and approved by FERWAFA.
In the first leg, Rwamagana City FC and Miroplast FC had settled for a 2-all draw before the former won the return leg 1-0 to advance on a 3-2 aggregate score.
Meanwhile, earlier today, Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) Appeals Board rejected a petition from Rwamagana City Fc’s petition over their disqualification from the 2017 Second Division League finals.
The Appeals Board chaired by Mme. Emmanuel Itamwa met on Thursday evening to hear Rwamagana City Fc’s petition.
On Friday morning, they passed the resolution of the board maintaining the decision of the FERWAFA Executive Committee of discontinuing Rwamagana City Fc from the finals of the 2017 Second Division League on the grounds that it fielded an eligible player in the first leg of the semi-final round of the this competition.
